Russian woman tapes gold bars to feet and almost gets away at Customs
The gold bars are worth more than 5 million rubles ($78.900).
Customs officers in Transbaikalia prevented a Russian woman from exporting nearly 2 kg of gold attached with adhesive tape to her feet to China. Chita Customs’ Marina Boyko reported the news Tuesday.
"The customs inspector noticed that the woman was nervous and behaved suspiciously. The woman put her feet one in front of the other rather unnaturally. They managed to detect the gold bars with a stationary metal detector. The tourist voluntarily gave out eight bars with a total weight of 1.86 kg, which had been attached to her feet with a tape", said Boyko.
The value of the artisanal bars is more than 5 million rubles. The woman said that a Chinese citizen asked her to transport the gold across the border for a fee.
The press service of the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office added that a criminal case was opened into the attempted export of the gold bars to China.
