Gang of raiders who extorted $255 thousand from St. Petersburg businessman detained

The crime figures had been searched for for 2 years.

Employees of the central administrative board of police and fighters of Rosgvardia’s Special Rapid Deployment Force have detained a group of criminals who are suspected of extortion and raiding.

The investigators believe that 3 men and a woman demanded for 17 million rubles ($255 thousand) from a businessman. Besides that, they wanted him to register a construction company in their names. The meeting took place in 2017 at Munich restaurant located in Primorsky district.

The businessman refused to pay and meet the conditions of the raiders. For that, the man was beaten up and made transfer 400 thousand rubles ($6 thousand) to an account of a woman who was the raiders’ accomplice. He filed a report with the police. The searches had been carrying out for 2 years. 175 thousand rubles ($2.6 thousand), flash cards, laptops, and mobile phones were seized from the raiders during the searches. 2 of the detainees have multiple prior records - for property offences, illegal drug trafficking, crimes against a person and other violations. Criminal case under item 3 of article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Extortion) was initiated. All three have been released under the guarantee of their place of residence.
