Corruption scandal at Dagestani government
Top officials of the government of Dagestan Republic were detained on February 5, 2018 as a result of a large-scale operation. On January 30, employees of the central offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Defense Ministry, and the Prosecutor General's Office arrived in Dagestan with an audit. Earlier, mayor of Makhachkala Musa Musayev and chief architect of Makhachkala Magomed-Rasul Gitinov were arrested over abuse of power.
At the same time, checks have been carried out the regional administrations of Tabasaran, Makhachkala, Izberbash, Botlikh, Buinak and Kizilyurt districts of the republic.
The Basmanny court authorized an arrest of the closest associates of the former head of Dagestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov. Dagestani Prime Minister Abdusamad Gamidov, two vice-premiers Shamil Isayev and Raudin Yusufov, as well as former Minister of Science and Education Shakhabas Shakhov have been detained. All of them are accused of fraud in a particularly large amount.
After scaring Dagestan with inspections, arrests, and searches, the interdepartmental commission of the Prosecutor General’s Office and ICR has identified key priorities for the regional watchdog authority. After the crackdown on the old clan-based system, the management reforms became more constructive – however, another wave of criminal cases, terminations, and arrests is expected in the republic. The CrimeRussia was figuring out what other Dagestani officials are currently at risk.
