Witness claims ex-senator Arashukov did not intend to kill Karachay-Cherkessia president's adviser
The investigation considers Rauf Arashukov the customer of the murder of the Karachay-Cherkessia President's Adviser, Fral Shebzukhov. A witness in this case claims that Arashukov instructed only to “beat” the official.
A witness in the case of Rauf Arashukov, ex-senator from Karachay-Cherkessia suspected of organizing several murders, said the latter did not plan to kill the Adviser to the President of the republic, Fral Shebzukhov, reports RIA Novosti citing a source familiar with the investigation. According to the testimony of Rustam Kopsergenov, the former senator instructed to “beat” Shebzukhov “to make him refuse from his post,” but eventually he was killed.
According to Kopsergenov, Arashukov asked him to find people to beat the Adviser. Shebzukhov was eventually to resign, and Arashukov - to take his place.
Tuesday, May 28, a meeting of Moscow City Court takes place, where the extension of Kopsergenov’s arrest is being appealed. The lawyer of the arrested confirmed that Arashukov had not asked to kill the Adviser to the President of Karachay-Cherkessia.
“I would like to note that confrontations were held between Kopsergenov and the convicts. They repeatedly testified that there was no task to kill,” the lawyer emphasized. Kopsergenov has been in custody from the moment of his detention in December 2017.
At the request of Arashukov, Kopsergenov found the perpetrators of the attack - Magomet Dzhubuev, Sultan Dzhankezov, Alik Tatarkulov and Nazim Kuscheterov. In May 2010, they beat Shebzukhov with baseball bats. During the attack, he tried to run away in the direction of his house, and the criminals gunned him down. For the attack, they received 500 thousand rubles ($7.7 thousand). In February 2013, the Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia sentenced them to terms ranging from 14.5 to 19 years of strict regime.
Rauf Arashukov was detained in the Federation Council in late January 2019. He is suspected of participating in a criminal group and organizing several murders. At the same time, the father of the former senator, Raul Arashukov was arrested, who was later accused of creating a criminal group and embezzling gas for 30 billion rubles ($464.2 m). In addition to the father and son Arashukovs, seven other defendants were arrested - their relatives and friends who held high positions in gas enterprises in the North Caucasus.
