Volgograd airport gang of thieves exposed
Eight airport employees have stolen valuables from passengers' baggage for a year.
Police and FSB officers have detained a group of employees of the Volgograd airport, who stole things from passengers' baggage, said the official spokesperson for the Russian Interior Ministry, Irina Volk.
Three passengers appealed to the police who stated that valuables had disappeared from their baggage at the airport. During the investigation, it became clear that a whole organized group could be involved in the theft.
Investigators have found that since August 2018, eight airport employees have stolen jewelry and expensive equipment from passengers' baggage. Thefts occurred when the baggage was in cargo holds of planes arriving in Volgograd and departing from it.
A friend of one of the thieves sold the plunder. During searches of suspects' homes, jewelry, video and photographic equipment, mobile phones, and cash in various currencies were discovered. A criminal case of Theft (part 2 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) has been opened.
