Senator Arashukov complains about conditions at Lefortovo
He is dissatisfied with the lack of hot water and cellmate.
Arrested Senator Rauf Arashukov talked with representatives of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) and spoke about the difficulties of being in the SIZO.
In particular, according to Arashukov, there is no hot water in Lefortovo, and a cell-mate of the politician is a convict accused of terrorism and illegal arms trafficking. TASS cites Moscow PMC Ivan Melnikov.
However, according to Melnikov, the Senator does not want to clash with his neighbor, but “protests in principle against the violation of the law,” according to which it is prohibited to keep a convicted person with a non-convicted person in one cell of the SIZO.
Earlier, the FSIN promised to find a new cellmate for the accused Senator.
Melnikov added that Senator’s father Raul Arashukov was also placed in a cell with a convicted man. “There is no hot water in both chambers,” the member of the PMC added.
Arashukov Jr. is also unhappy that he is not given the opportunity to talk with his lawyer. Melnikov stressed that this pre-trial detention center faces the deficit of cells for communication between arrested persons and defense lawyers, and said that the PMC hopes that Lefortovo will eliminate this deficiency after repairs.
As The CrimeRussia has written, the Arashukovs were arrested in the case of organizing a criminal community with the aim of stealing natural gas from Gazprom for 31 billion rubles. Also, the Senator is charged with masterminding two murders and putting pressure on a witness.
The Prosecutor General's Office had earlier accused the Moscow region’s ex-official of exceeding official authority, taking a bribe on an especially large scale, and forgery, and demanded to seize assets worth of 9 billion rubles ($135 million) from him.
