Senator Arashukov begins eating at pre-trial detention center and complains about not seeing lawyer
Earlier, the parliamentarian refused to eat prison food, but the parcel from relatives did not arrive.
Member of the Federation Council Rauf Arashukov, who was deprived of immunity and arrested last week, did not receive parcels from his relatives and began to eat prison food, which he had previously refused to accept. The senator drinks tea and eats soup. He can not to buy food in the prison shop due to a lack of money on his personal account, Izvestia reports
Moreover, Arashukov Jr. complained that he still has not met his lawyer. The reason for that may be a lack of rooms for defenders, a member of the Public Monitoring Committee Boris Klin suggested. “The defenders cast lots to make a visit in this detention center,” Klin said.
The senator's father, Raul Arashukov, has no complaints about the conditions of detention. According to Arashukov Sr., he hasn’t been “fed so tasty even at home.” The alleged leader of the organized criminal group which stole gas from Gazprom worth 30 billion rubles ($ 458 million) is held alone in a double cell, Klin reported.
Arashukovs will be kept in custody until the end of March. Senator, in addition to participation in the organized criminal group, is charged with two murders and tampering with witnesses.
Mass protest rallies have been taking place in Moscow on a regular basis since the beginning of this summer. People are protesting for lots of different reasons. However, the reaction of the law enforcement authorities is always the same: repression. What is the reason behind the brutality shown during the dispersion of mass rallies? A conscious intimidation policy or incompetence of law enforcement functionaries escalating the violence and unable to imagine the potential consequences of this?
