Rauf Arashukov to remain Senator of Karachay-Cherkessia for the time of investigation

The detained Rauf Arashukov will retain the membership in the Federation Council, Head of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic Rashid Temrezov said during the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi.
“He is an acting senator,” the Republic head noted. He added that this would not change for the time of investigation.
Karachay-Cherkessia Senator Rauf Arashukov was detained in the Federation Council building on January 30. The same day, his father, Advisor to the General Director of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz and a deputy of the Karachay-Cherkessia People's Assembly Raul Arashukov was detained at a Gazprom meeting in St. Petersburg.
Rauf Arashukov is suspected of committing a number of crimes under part 3 of Art. 210 of the Russian Criminal Code (Participation in a Criminal Community), part 4 of Art. 309 (Pressure on a Witness), and part 2 of Art. 105 (Murder). According to the investigation, Arashukov is involved in the murders of Deputy Head of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic youth movement Adyghe-Khase, Aslan Zhukov, and Advisor to the President of the KCR Fral Shebzukhov, pressure on the witness of Zhukov’s murder, as well as participation in a crime community.
Raul Arashukov is accused of committing crimes under part 3 of Art. 210 (Creation of a Criminal Community (Criminal Organization) committed by a person through his/her official position) and part 4 of Art. 159 of the Russian Criminal Code (Swindling). According to the case file, he was involved in stealing natural gas from PJSC Gazprom worth more than 30 billion rubles ($454 million) for several years.
