Oryol: Ex-official sentenced to 9.5 years for shielding illegal casinos and taking bribe
A former Oryol public official and gang member was sent to high security prison.
The Arkhangelsk Region Court ruled on a case against a gang that shielded illegal casinos. Former Head of the Orelgoszakazchik Company Andrey Ersh is one of the defendants. He was the gang leader, according to the investigators. The Court gave him a 9.5 year-long custodial sentence.
Moreover, the following police officers were gang members: Evgeny Klevtsov, Andrey Verbilo, Yuri Oshurkov, Andrey Khokhlov, Dmitry Nikitin, Vladimir Dokunikhin, Viktor Vivchik, and Aleksandr Antontsev. The criminals began their illegal activity in 2009. The FSB arrested them in 2014. The Court discovered the police officers shielded and took bribes from people who ran illegal casinos in the Cities of Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk and Town of Novodvinsk.
Ersh is accused of not only creation of a criminal community, but of mediation in bribing an investigator of the Office of Investigations of the Department of the MIA of the Russian Federation in the Arkhangelsk Region. The investigator was to start preliminary investigation of the criminal case anew.
“All the perpetrators were sentenced to 3 to 9.5 years in high security prison, fined for 500,000 to 12 million rubles ($8,738 and $209,724 respectively), barred from holding public or municipal office for 2 to 2.5 years, and stripped of special ranks,” the Arkhangelsk Public Prosecutors Office’s statements reads.
Evidence of Solntsevskie leaders’ acquaintance with State Duma deputy and Hero of Russia Vladimir Shamanov and Lokomotiv trainer Yury Syomin was photos of them together, obtained by Spanish investigators from the smartphone of one of the gang leaders Arnold Spivakovsky (Tamm), who was arrested in the Costa del Sol last year in the framework of the police operation dubbed Oligarch.
