Moscow Region: Gang of extortionists detained
Footage of searches in the apartment of detainees, as well as fragments of their testimony, was published.
Moscow Region police detained three men on suspicion of extorting 5 million rubles ($780,000) from a local entrepreneur. The Moscow State Oil Company reported on this with reference to the press service of the regional administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The gang attacked a man in a cafe on Silikatnaya Street in Korolev. Threatening with a pistol and using physical force, the criminals demanded that a 41-year-old entrepreneur pay them back a non-existent debt, the Ministry said.
The police detained the racketeers. Footage of searches in the apartment of the detainees, as well as fragments of their testimony, was published. The video shows men refusing to say anything, referring to Article 51 of the Constitution.
“Men from 27 to 40 years old have been detained, one of whom has previously been convicted; they are suspected of committing a crime. During the searches at their places of residence, more than 30 mobile phones, about 100 SIM cards, bank cards, a laptop and 12 cartridges were found and seized,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs specified.
The Ministry also added that a criminal case on Extortion was initiated against the detainees; a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for them.
