Member of Shamil Basaev’s gang who took part in attack on Budyonnovsk detained in Moscow
According to the Public Relations Centre of Russia’s Federal Security Service, witness testimonies exposing Khazvakh Cherkhigov’s criminal activity have been obtained.
The alleged member of Shamil Basaev’s gang who took part in an attack on the city of Budyonnovsk in 1995 Khazvakh Cherkhigov has been detained in Moscow, reports the Public Relations Centre of the Federal Security Service. The Centre has stated witness testimonies exposing Khazvakh Cherkhigov’s criminal activity had been obtained.
Cherkhigov was detained on November 19. Then, he was taken to the central office of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the North Caucasian Federal District and arrested.
The attack on the Stavropol region’s Budyonnovsk took place on June 14, 1995 when gunmen entered the city in their trucks and occupied the hospital, demanding that the Russian authorities stop the war in Chechnya and negotiate with Jokhar Dudaev.
129 persons died, 317 were injured following the act of terrorism. The terrorists left the city in the vehicles provided by the Russian authorities, having released the rest of the hostages.
Shamil Basaev died in 2006 in the explosion of a van loaded with an explosive device in the Republic of Ingushetia.
