Member of Basayev's gang convicted for assaulting military in Dagestan
In the same case, 28 persons of interest were put on the federal and international wanted lists.
The Botlikhsky District Court of Dagestan sentenced a militant from Shamil Basayev's terrorist group, Ravil Ilmukhambetov, to 6.5 years in prison for participating in the shelling of the military, during which 33 people were killed and 34 were injured. The court found Ilmukhambetov guilty of infringement on the life of a law enforcement officer (Article 317 CCRF), the ICR’s press service reports.
The militants attacked the servicemen in mid-July 1999. The latter were attacked by about a thousand people armed with machine guns and grenades. More than 70 militants received prison sentences ranging from 3 to 15 years, 28 other were placed on the federal and international wanted lists. The ICR terminated the prosecution against seven militants, including Shamil Basayev, after their death.
