Lawyer who was on Politkovskaya case to defend Senator Arashukov
The other day, Anna Stavitskaya concluded an agreement with Rauf Arashukov, a defendant in the case of murder, participation in an organized criminal community, and pressure on witnesses.
A partner of the Moscow Bar Association Liptser, Stavitskaya, and Partners, lawyer Anna Stavitskaya will defend Senator Rauf Arashukov, who is charged with participation in a criminal community, putting pressure on witnesses, and murders. This is reported by RBC.
According to Stavitskaya, she concluded an agreement with the senator the day before. Another lawyer in the case of Arashukov is Marina Andreeva. Lawyers have already filed a petition to familiarize with the case materials. In addition, the lawyers requested that no investigative actions be carried out without them.
Stavitskaya explained that she had not yet communicated with her client and could not comment on the charges against him.
Anna Stavitskaya was on the case of Anna Politkovskaya; she currently represents the interests of the slain journalist’s relatives. In addition, she defended Russian scientists Igor Sutyagin and Valentin Danilov. In 2004, Sutyagin was accused of disclosing state secrets and espionage and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Six years later, the scientist was acquitted and sent to the US on an exchange program. As for Danilov, he was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment on charges of high treason and swindling in favor of China in 2004. Later, his sentence was reduced by one year. In 2012, he was granted a conditional parole.
Karachay-Cherkessia Senator Rauf Arashukov is believed to be involved in the murder of Deputy Chairman of the youth movement Adyghe-Khase Aslan Zhukov and Advisor to the President of the KCR Fral Shebzukhov, as well as putting pressure on the witness of Zhukov’s murder. In addition, he is charged with Participation in a Criminal Community. Arashukov has been arrested until March 30.
The senator’s father, Raul Arashukov, has also been detained. The investigation considers him the leader of a criminal community that has been active in the North Caucasus since 2002. According to the investigation, Arashukov Sr. personally appointed his acquaintances and relatives to key positions, which allowed the group to steal gas in the amount of more than 31 billion rubles ($457 million) from Gazprom. On top of everything else, Raul Arashukov's nephew, Ruslan Arashukov, has been detained. He used to be director general of Gazprom Gazoraspredelenie Astrakhan and Gazprom Mezhregiongaz Astrakhan.
