Irkutsk: deputy who admitted to killing two persons runs for City Duma elections
The man was involved in the murder of two members of a Chita-based organized criminal group Klyuchevskie.
City Duma Deputy Aleksandr Panko has submitted his candidature for joining the representative body. This is evidenced by the documents of the electoral commission.
Panko is the only independent candidate in district No. 35 and the fourth current deputy to declare his participation in the election to the electoral commission. At the moment, 50 people have entered the election race.
47-year-old Panko is general director of the popular recreation center on the Irkutsk Gulf Ershi. He has been elected as deputy from the United Russia faction since 2007. In 2018, the regional IC filed charges against him businessman in connection with the murder of two members of the Chita-based Klyuchevskie criminal group; this February, the deputy pleaded guilty to all the charges. However, the criminal case was terminated due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
At the same time, Region Head Sergey Levchenko referred a statement on the early termination of Panko’s powers last December, but – for reasons unknown – the decision on the Governor’s application has not yet been made. Meanwhile, the political and business career of the man goes up, despite his participation in a serious crime.
Russians have been standing for their rights more aggressively since the controversial pension reform, worsened financial situation and social unrest against the background of the elections to the Moscow City Duma.
