FSB eliminates network of underground weapons workshops in 32 regions of Russia
A rocket flamethrower and anti-tank grenade launchers were found in the cache.
The FSB officers, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Rosgvardiya, detained 86 alleged members of a criminal gang that was engaged in illegal trade and production of weapons throughout Russia. Operations to arrest suspects and searches of the workshops took place in 32 regions of the country. It is reported by the Center for Public Relations of the FSB.
The security forces seized 197 units of firearms of domestic and foreign production, eliminated nine underground workshops for the modernization of weapons and the creation of ammunition.
According to the intelligence services, the suspects converted civilian weapons into combat weapons, produced ammunition, and then sold everything. The siloviki seized the RPE-A Bumblebee flamethrower, two RPG-26 anti-tank grenade launchers, 11 fragmentation grenades, 33 kg of gunpowder and trotyl, 88 electric detonators, 18 machine guns, 126 pistols and revolvers, 16 submachine guns, 38 carbines and rifles, about 300 main parts to the weapon, more than 10 thousand cartridges of different caliber and over 9 thousand components for their manufacture.
According to the results of examinations of the seized arsenal, criminal cases were initiated under articles 222 (Illegal Arms Trafficking), 222.1 (Illegal Circulation of Explosives), 223 (Illegal Production of Weapons) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
