FSB discovers arms cache with fingerprints of absconding organizer of explosions in Moscow
New charges have been filed against Achemez Gochiyaev.
The investigation has filed new charges against Achemez Gochiyaev, who is suspected of organizing explosions in apartment buildings in Moscow. The terrorist acts took place in 1999. The suspect has yet to be caught. He is on the international wanted list. Apart from terrorist act preparation, the FSB suspects him of illegal purchase, sale, and storage of arms.
According to a source, an old (exact timing not specified) arms cache with Gochiyaev's fingerprints has been found. The FSB has referred documents on the new circumstances of the case to the Lefortovo Court of Moscow with a petition of his arrest in absentia. The meeting was attended by the lawyer of the person accused, Roman Kovalev. By court order, as soon as the defendant is extradited to Russia, they will be detained for a period of two months.
Explosions of residential buildings on Guryanov Street and Kashirskoye Highway killed more than 200 people. The FSB found that Gochiyaev rented non-residential premises on the ground floors of these houses under a false name. After that, bags of explosives were placed there and later set off. According to intelligence agencies, Gochiyaev is likely to be hiding in Turkey.
