After the Arashukovs' arrest, law enforcement agencies began to receive complaints from residents of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic.

Despite the high-profile case against Senator Rauf Arashukov and his father Raul Arashukov, the family’s influence on the local elite in the Caucasus persists, Lenta.ru writes with reference to a high-ranking source in the leadership of the Republic.

Thus, the source of the publication said that after the arrests of the father and son Arashukovs, local residents began to come to the police, wishing to file statements against representatives of a prominent family. However, their papers are not accepted.

“One of the district prosecutors and a police chief, the Arashukovs’ proteges, openly say that everyone will be eliminated and they will be taken off the hook, and they also threaten to nail to the wall those who put the Arashukovs behind bars,” said the source.

The interlocutor commented on a complacent look of Senator Arashukov at the trial - the politician smiled and, it seemed, was not at all upset because of the charge. He answered the judge's questions while sitting, while it is prescribed to stand up.

“This is the veneer of calm, he just does not know how to behave. He has not known the word "no" at all since when he was a child. He had a very unhappy childhood: he had no toys, everything was real (weapons, cars),” said the source.

He added that Arashukov was partly aware of the operation being prepared against him and was doing a foreign passport to disappear.

As for the household head, Raul Arashukov, according to the source, he began to build his gas empire since the 90s, appointing his people to positions in the company Mezhregiongaz, which sells fuel throughout the North Caucasus, with the exception of the Chechen Republic. Each protege of Arashukov had his own plan for the theft of gas - his own developed scheme, the source notes.

“His henchmen were everywhere. And the amount of the plunder (31 billion rubles ($472.2 m)) is absolutely not overvalued, judging by how well they lived,” the source highlighted. According to him, the Arashukovs own a spa hotel in Khabez, a house in the center of Stavropol, as well as a summer house in Essentuki. In addition, the clan has real estate in Cherkessk, apartments in Moscow and Dubai, a house in Barvikha in the Moscow region.

According to the investigation, the Senator from Karachay-Cherkessia, Rauf Arashukov, was involved in two murders committed in 2010: Aslan Zhukov, Deputy Chairman of the public youth movement Adyge-Khase of the Republic, and Fral Shebzukhov, Adviser to the President of the Republic. In addition, the ICR believes that Arashukov Sr. created a criminal community, which since 2002 has stolen gas for 31 billion rubles ($472.2 m).
