Defendant in case related to murder of businessman Mineev disappears as officers of Federal Security Service rob bank
Boris Karamatov’s office and the bank were located at the same address. Karamatov had earlier been detained in a high-profile criminal case.
Officers of the Federal Security Service accused of robbery had dealt with taking away money from Chinese who work in the Moscow-based shopping complex Sadovod.
The embezzled 140 million rubles ($2.1 thousand) were meant to be exchanged for dollars in a small commercial bank Metallurg located on 16a, Ivan Babushkin street. With that, Boris Karamatov - a defendant in a case related to murder of a founder of chain stores Partiya and Dinamo Aleksander Mineev - disappeared following the June 10th incident. Karamatov had also dealt with exchange transactions. His office and the bank were located at the same address.
With that, Metallurg states there hasn’t been an incident in the office, and no one robbed money of the bank of its client.
The businessman’s acquaintances say that shortly before the disappearance, he tried to find out who exactly had been responsible for investigation of crimes related to illegal cash-out and siphoning off of money abroad. In reply, he was told to file a report with the local police division, but Karamatov didn’t do that - out of concern for provocations. “We’ll see. We’ll find out,” he said to his friend who wondered on June 7 whether Karamatov had appealed to the police.
Karamatov’s acquaintances tried to reach him after the June 11th incident, however his phones were off. In a week, Boris Karamatov’s son and brother who live in London took on the search. Interestingly, according to data provided by WhatsApp messenger, the businessman was last seen online on June 10 at 12 pm which coincides with robbery the officers of the Federal Security Service are accused of.
Boris Karamatov (aka Boris Khamitov and Narviz Makhmudov) had been accused in a criminal case related to murder of a businessman Aleksander Mineev and illegal seizure of his assets. First, he was placed in a remand prison. In a while, he was placed under house arrest. At the present time, he is on bail.
It had earlier become known that the number of the Federal Security Service employees in the robbery case grew from 7 to 15 persons. All of them are the fighters of a special division Alpha and are on the wanted list now. On July 5, it became known about detention of 5 employees of the Federal Security Service accused of robbery committed by an organised group (item 4 of article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). 2 others had been detained earlier - on July 2.
