Auto-swindlers' gang headed by thief in law Avto's assistant face trial
Katamadze was not personally involved in the frauds with insurance; he is charged with possession of weapons, arbitrariness and extortion.
On February 21, the Leninsky Court of Yekaterinburg starts the trial in respect of the Auto-swindlers' gang, headed by criminal leader Shota Katamadze, previously convicted of organizing mass riots in the village of Sagra near Yekaterinburg. He is also known as an assistant of thief in law Avtandil Kobesavidze (aka Avto). In addition, Katamadze may be involved in the murder of a guard at a gas station near the village of Gorny Shchit in the summer of 2015.
The fraudsters purchased expensive cars, insured them in Surgutneftegaz, and then imitated a road accident. The gun, whith which the gas station security guard was killed, was found and confiscated by the security forces in August 2017 during the arrest of members of the gang, after which the owner of the weapon gave testimony against all persons involved in the attack at the gas station, including the leader of the gang - Shota Katamadze. He was detained in July 2017 with six members of his gang. A criminal case against them was initiated under item “b” of Part 3 of Art. 163 of the Criminal Code (Extortion) and part 2 of Art. 159.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Fraud with insurance). In addition to Katamadze, the Ramazanov brothers were members of the gang (according to Ura.ru, one of them died during the investigation), as well as Rinat Bikmukhametov, a son of the Sverdlovsk Arbitration Judge Elena Bikmukhametova. Over 20 people face trial in this case.
All of them are charged with at least a dozen criminal episodes. Katamadze is not involved in frauds with insurance personally, he is charged with possession of weapons, arbitrariness and extortion. For example, people who cashed out money for a gang, began to delay payments and bought cars, and Shota personally punished them, which led him to arbitrariness charges, ”a source told Ura.ru.
At the moment, all active members of the gang are awaiting trial; they were released from a pre-detention center by the court.
