Arashukov’s arrest preceded by government security services’ report to Kremlin
The document was prepared by an envoy in the North Caucasian Federal District Aleksander Matovnikov.
Arrest of the senator Arashukov, his father and other defendants in the case related to theft from Gazprom was preceded by government security services’ report to the President Vladimir Putin. This has been discovered by RBC from a source within MIA’ central office.
The source told everything started from a conflict of the family of Arashukov with a formed head of MIA in the Karachay-Cherkessia Kazimir Botashev. Multiple complaints about the family were sent to police: the locals accused the senator and his father of illegal takeover. Some facts were exposed, after criminal case against a head of MIA in the Karachay-Cherkessia Mukhtar Pkheshkov (who is Botashev’s ex-colleague) was initiated.
After Botashev was promoted in 2017 and became a head of the Intelligence Department of Rosgvardia, he turned - through General Sergey Chenchik (holds office as deputy head of Rosgvardia) - to a new envoy of the North Caucasian Federal District - Lieutenant General Aleksander Matovnikov. The latter, in insiders’ words, had a large amount of material on the Arashukovs.
“Matovnikov - along with Rosgvardia head Viktor Zolotov - handed over this material to a head of the control directorate of Kremlin Dmitry Shalkov; the latter showed it to the President,” the source added.
According to an RBC source, the report signed by Matovnikov was dated September 24, 2018.
It shall be assumed that due to the exposed facts, investigator of the central office of the Investigative Committee of Russia Andrey Gorbarchuk set off on a business trip for the Karachay-Cherkessia in October, 2018.
“There was no other investigator of the Investigative Committee who knew what was going on. None of the employees of the Committee in the Republic or the North Caucasian Federal District was cleared for the investigation. All information was blocked,” the source told.
The ‘K’ directorate of the Economic Security Service of the Federal Security Service got involved in the case at an advanced stage. Criminal case against the Arashukovs was initiated following a report by a head of the directorate Ivan Tkachev.
