Wildberries owner becomes second billionaire woman in Russia
Previously, the only woman in Russia with a fortune of more than a billion dollars was the wife of the former Mayor of Moscow, Yelena Baturina.
Tatyana Bakalchuk, the sole owner of the online store Wildberries, has become the second billionaire female in Russia. Her fortune is estimated at more than $ 1 billion. Wildberries itself ranked fourth in the Forbes list of the most expensive Runet companies with a value of $ 1.2 billion. It is preceded by Yandex ($ 10.7 billion), Mail.ru Group ($ 5.3 billion), Avito ($ 3.8 billion).
The magazine notes that since Wildberries is not public, an assessment of its value was made on the basis of data on sales and profits, as well as on multipliers of similar projects and estimates of venture capitalists. Tatyana Bakalchuk first entered the list of the wealthiest people in Russia a year ago, then her fortune was $ 600 million, and the company's revenue was estimated at $ 1.7 billion.
Wildberries was founded in 2004. Initially, Bakalchuk and her husband were selling women's clothes through German catalogs Otto and Quelle, later in Wildberries started to offer household appliances, cosmetics, and children's products.
Previously, the only woman in Russia with a wealth of more than a billion dollars was Yelena Baturina, the spouse of the Moscow ex-Mayor, Yury Luzhkov.
It concerns entrepreneur Dmitry Motorin, Boris Usherovich, a co-owner of the Group of Companies 1520, and Novoe Vremya board member, Ivan Stankevich. Motorin is accused of giving a bribe on an especially large scale, and Stankevich and Usherovich are charged with bribe-taking.
