Timchenko got Zolotoy Kolos restaurant at VDNKHa
The businessman intends to revive the once popular restaurant in the USSR.
Owned by Gennady Timchenko Volga Group company Glavny Restoran of VSHV (The Main Restaurant of VSHV) rented the building of the former restaurant Zolotoy Kolos (Golden Spike) at VDNKHa for 49 years,
Vedomosti reported. This is also confirmed by representatives of Timchenko.
The building is located at the farthest from the VDNKh main entrance part. From 1937 to 1954, it was called Glavny Restoran (Main Restaurant). Later, a second floor was added and it was renamed. In the times of the USSR, Zolotoy Kolos was considered one of the most prestigious restaurants, along with Prague and Moscow. However, in the 80's the institution was closed and until 2013 it was used as a warehouse. The building, with an area of almost 4 thousand square meters, was considered worn out by more than half. Now, the building is in utter reconstruction.
Timchenko plans to restore the building, preserving the historical appearance of the main facade, which is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance and to reopen the restaurant there. The project should be implemented in seven years.
The representative of the businessman could not tell the concept of the restaurant, but stressed that the emphasis will be on dishes from the products of domestic producers. According to the source of Vedomosti, the institution will even have a separate zone for presentations of Russian products.
As noted, an investment in VDNKHa infrastructure is "a tribute to the historical heritage of the city and the country" for Timchenko, - the newspaper writes.
It is curious that Arseny Novikov, restaurateur, received proposals on leasing and reconstruction of Zolotoy Kolos, but refused. He explained to the edition that he did not like the exterior of the building, which turned out to be too big, made in the style of the Stalin Empire.
According to owner of Restconsult Sergey Mironov, depending on the ability to drive to the restaurant by car, it can be either high-end or economy. In his opinion, it would be more logical to open several restaurants in the building, which will have a different concept. Based on the area of the building, he suggested that Timchenko will invest about 300 million rubles ($5.2m).
