Prokhorov buys Khloponin’s Italian villa via offshore company
Media assumed the house could cost the businessman €6.5 million to €20 million.
The billionaire businessman Mikhail Prokhorov has bought the Italian villa of Deputy PM Alexander Khloponin. The deal was made through an offshore company, the BBC learned.
The publication has obtained the cadastral extract and the data from the Cyprus registry. Onexim also confirmed the information on the villa purchase, not going into the particulars, however.
The cadastral extract states that Khloponin owned a plot of land with buildings in the city of Forte dei Marmi on the western coast of Italy between 2008 and 2017. Now the villa belongs to FDM Real Estate LTD rather than an individual. The BBC found same-named legal entity in the register of Cypriot companies, and it follows that FDM Real Estate LTD belongs to Neptolino Holdings, which Prokhorov owns. The company has been mentioned with his name before: for example, he owns a share in Obuv Rossii (Shoes of Russia) retail chain via this company. Neptolino Holdings and FDM Real Estate LTD are registered under the same address in Cyprus.
Khloponin's spokeswoman did not comment on the information to the publication. She noted that this had nothing to do with Khloponin's work in the government, and only the family knows the buyer’s name.
The news that the Italian villa had been purchased first emerged when the 2017 declarations of members of the government were made public. Khloponin made more than anyone else the government last year, almost 3 billion rubles ($48.4m). The declaration somehow did not feature the house with an area of 818.4 square meters and a plot of land of 8.223 square meters in Italy. The house could cost €6.5 million to €20 million, the Russian service of the BBC reported citing two local real estate agencies and two experts.

The investigators found two rifles, including one with an optical sight, seven thousand cartridges, 14 improvised explosive devices, ten grenades, 140 detonators, a rocket-propelled grenade and 14 rounds in the unfinished building.
