US court sentences Ukrainian woman to 20 years in prison for child pornography

The 32-year-old produced child pornography involving a two-year-old girl.

An American federal court sentenced Ukrainian citizen Olena Kalichenko to 20 years in prison for sexual exploitation of a child as well as producing and distributing child pornography on 13 August.

“The defendant’s lengthy prison sentence should serve as a warning to anyone who victimizes children by producing and trafficking child pornography, on the internet or otherwise: You will be identified, apprehended, prosecuted and punished,” stated United States Attorney Donoghue.

According to data published on the US Department of Justice website, the 32-year-old woman was detained in the summer of 2014, when she arrived in the US. In April 2016, the Ukrainian pleaded guilty to the charges.

After serving her time, she will be entered into the sex offender registry and deported back to Ukraine.

Kalichenko produced some 46 videos of child pornography between April 2012 and November 2012 involving a two-year-old girl in Ukraine. After being paid “thousands of dollars”, she sent those videos to Joseph Valerio, who wrote the scripts.

In January 2014, FBI and police searched Valerio’s house and found costumes, hidden cameras, a stage and multiple electronic devices, which revealed he produced child pornography involving a six-year-old girl. The man was sentenced to 60 years in jail.
