A single-engine plane crashed on Tuesday evening in the vicinity of Monte Carmo in Italy.

Two pilots were found dead at the site of a plane crash early Wednesday morning. According to local authorities, rescuers and carabinieri found the debris of a Piper airplane in a mountainous area in Liguria, the bodies of both pilots were still in the cockpit. According to eyewitness accounts, the crash occurred at around 9 p.m. local time, RIA Novosti reports.

The pilots’ relatives raised the alarm after being unable to reach the two via their cell phones on Tuesday evening. Authorities immediately launched a search and rescue operation involving an Italian Navy helicopter.

A week ago, another light airplane fell onto the A-26 highway, which connects the Italian regions of Liguria and Piedmont. The pilot was killed, but luckily not a single car was hit in the crash.
