The Defense Minister was returning to Moscow after a working visit to Kaliningrad.

A Russian Su-27 fighter pushed a NATO F-18 from the plane carrying Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu when flying over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, reports TASS. Shoigu was going to Moscow from Kaliningrad, accompanied by two fighter aircraft of the Baltic Fleet. The Spanish fighter tried to get closer but was driven away.

Shoigu had taken part in Kaliningrad ceremony of laying the foundation for the construction of a new educational institution - a branch of the Nakhimov Naval School, and also attended the Armi-2019 Sea Landing competition at the Khmelevka training ground.

The foreign jet that was approaching the plane belongs to the Spanish Air Force and is a modification of a F-18; EF-18, Kommersant said. Since May, the jet has been at the air base in Lithuania for duty in the Baltic Sea region.
