Russian soldier dies in Armenia

The body of the 23-year-old contract soldier was scratched.

Soldier of the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia Aleksandr Babushkin, 23, died in Gyumri, Shamshyan reports. Upon examination, the investigators noticed scratches on Babushkin’s face, right arm and right leg.

“There were no signs of violent death,” the press service of the Russian military base of the Southern Military District in the Republic of Armenia reported.

Officials of the military base explained that the soldier who served under the contract became ill, he asked to call an ambulance and died on the way to the hospital from a previously existing illness.

The Russian military base was deployed in Armenia in 1995. In 2010, the interstate agreement on the deployment was extended until 2044.
