Russian citizens stuck at Barcelona airport, Russian embassy in Spain

There are Russian citizens at Barcelona El Prat international airport, where a rally of supporters of the independence of Catalonia took place. In particular, these are passengers from Moscow who arrived at the airport on Monday, October 14, tweeted the Russian Embassy in Spain.
“The Russian Embassy in Spain and the Consulate General in Barcelona receive information that passengers of the Moscow flight arriving there this afternoon are at Barcelona El Prat Airport,” the diplomatic service said.

On Monday, October 14, clashes occurred between the police and the supporters of the independence of Catalonia at the airport in Barcelona. According to the local media, as a result, at least 56 people sought medical help. The protesters demanded the release of the Catalan leaders arrested on the same day after the referendum on independence in 2017. In particular, the Spanish Supreme Court sentenced nine leaders of Catalonia to long terms of imprisonment. Those are the former deputy head of the Government of Catalonia, Oriol Junqueras (13 years in prison), the former head of the regional department for foreign affairs Raul Romeva and his secretary Jordi Turul (12 years each) and others.
