New leader in Bloomberg Billionaires Index
For the first time in more than two years, Bill Gates topped the list of the richest people according to Bloomberg. He replaced Jeff Bezos.
On Friday, co-founder of Microsoft Corp. Bill Gates beat Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI). According to the agency, Gates took the leading line for the first time in more than two years.
The agency assumes that the Pentagon’s unexpected decision announced on October 25 to provide Microsoft with a 10-year $10 billion contract to move its IT systems from physical servers to the cloud partially helped Gates become a leader.
Since then, Microsoft shares have risen 4%, which brought Gates a fortune of $110 billion. Meanwhile, Amazon, which also claimed the contract but lost it, fell by approximately 2%. As a result, Bezos’s fortune is estimated at $108.7 billion.
Last month, Gates already overtook Bezos, but on the same day, shares in the world's largest online retailer managed to overcome the fall and once again brought Amazon founder to the top.
Frenchman Bernard Arnault with a fortune of $102.7 billion is third in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
