Young people in Syria threw stones and Molotov cocktails at an armored car with a Russian patrol inside. The military called the attack a provocation.
Turkish and Kurdish media published a video with a Russian armored car on fire. According to Anadolu news agency, a group of Kurdish youths attacked a column of Russian military equipment in the Ain al-Arab (Kobani) region. They targeted a Typhoon armored car with a Russian flag. The car caught fire, but soon drove away.
The Kurdish portal Nuce Ciwan claimed that the incident occurred after the Turkish military had used tear gas against residents.
The Reconciliation Center said that none of the soldiers were injured. The car is also working. The military continue to patrol after the incident. The attack itself was called a provocation, RBC reports.
“In order to prevent possible accidents, the convoy senior decided to drive around the group of young people and continue on the previously established patrol route,” the center said.
Russia and Turkey are now patrolling the northern regions of Syria together under the agreement that was made at the end of October. Pursuant to the document, Turkey stopped its military operation Peace Spring, aimed against the Syrian Kurds. The Kurdish militia, in turn, moved 30 km from the Turkish border.
