Mexican city mayor dragged along street tied to truck for failing to restore road as promised

About 50 people took part in the mayor’s kidnapping.

Jorge Luis Escandon Hernandez, the mayor of Las Margaritas, Mexico, was abducted from the administration building by residents, tied to a pickup truck and dragged around the city. According to El Heraldo de Mexico, the reason was the official’s failure to fulfill his campaign promises, such as restoring the road.

La hoguera notes that about 50 people took part in the abduction of the mayor, and about 40 police officers took part in his release. The official survived and was given medical assistance.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that ten people were injured in the scuffle and 11 were detained. Escandon Hernandez said he was going to press charges of the abduction and attempted murder.
