Hockey players Ovechkin and Kovalchuk suspected of having US citizenship
Ovechkin founded the Putin Team social movement in support of President Vladimir Putin.
Hockey players Alexander Ovechkin and Ilya Kovalchuk may have two citizenships, Russian and US. This version was brought forward by Aleksey Gryatskikh, the author of the investigation on American citizenship of Evgeny Malkin, who plays in the NHL.
“I would dig up the topic of Alexander Ovechkin and Ilya Kovalchuk’s passports. Judging by a number of indirect signs, they may be holders of US citizenship status. But I do not guarantee this,” Gryatskikh said as cited by Sport-Express.
Ovechkin founded the Putin Team social movement in support of President Vladimir Putin. Evgeny Malkin is also a member of this association. The second citizenship of the Pittsburgh forward became known from the entrepreneurs with whom he invested in the blockchain business. The 33-year-old athlete himself confirmed the presence of American citizenship and called the States his second home.
