Russian who shot ex-Chechen war participant gets arrested in Berlin

The dead Kist man was a citizen of Georgia.

Although the German police have yet to disclose the identity of the Chechen killed in Berlin, they have already stated that the person shot was a 40-year-old Georgian citizen. Thus, the version of residents the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia is confirmed; their fellow countryman Zelimkhan Khangoshvili has been killed.

Berlin prosecutors said that a man detained on suspicion of the murder is a 49-year-old Russian.

He was detained near the crime scene on Friday, August 23. The suspect has been arrested and put in prison. The police discovered the murder weapon and the bike on which the suspect was trying to escape.

Zelimkhan Khangoshvili participated in the second Chechen campaign and the events that took place in August 2012 in the Lopota Gorge. Later, he joined Islamists. At least 2 earlier episodes of attempts on his life are known.
