French pedophile surgeon charged with 250 sex assaults

More than 150 cases of sexual abuse occurred between 1991 and 2014, when the surgeon worked in northwestern France.

French surgeon Joel Le Scouarnec, 68, is accused of sexual abuse of more than 250 people, Le Parisien reports. 

Initially, the doctor was accused of sexual abuse of only four minor girls, but the number of victims was constantly growing during the investigative activities. On November 18, it became known that the police identified 250 potential victims of Joel Le Scouarnec, 184 of them are ready to write statements against the surgeon.

More than 150 cases of sexual abuse occurred between 1991 and 2014, when the surgeon worked in northwestern France. It is also known that he tried to harass one of his nieces.

Le Scouarnec faces up to 20 years in prison. The trial is scheduled for early 2020.

The doctor was arrested in 2017 after a six-year-old girl accused him of rape. During the searches at Le Scouarnec 's house, files with child pornography and diaries describing sexual acts against minors were found.
