EU approves sanctions against Turkey
The sanction is imposed due to the exploration of hydrocarbon deposits in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.
The European Union (EU) has approved sanctions against Turkey in connection with the exploration of hydrocarbon deposits in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus, Lenta.ru reports.
The sanctions include a reduction in EU funding from Turkey and completion of negotiations on an air traffic agreement, as well as on topics such as business and trade. Also, if the Turkish authorities continue to insist on their position, other restrictive measures are possible, including to companies or individuals involved in the exploration of deposits.
The exclusive economic zone of Cyprus keeps two Turkish drilling rigs - Fatih and Yavuz. Greece and Cyprus consider it a provocation to conduct geological exploration in this territory. The authorities of the republic claim that they have the right to natural resources in the region.
