Cyprus to seize ‘golden passports’ from 9 Russians
In the years ahead, the number of withdrawn papers that had been received for investments will increase.
The country’s Minister of the Interior Konstantinos Petridis says 26 foreigners - including 9 Russians - will be deprived of Cyprus’ citizenship reports Cyprus Times. So-called ‘golden passports’ were illegally issued during the European Union campaign that allowed to issue passports in exchange for investments in the economy.
Cyprus is going to increase the number of withdrawn papers. Besides that, the country will continue inspection into investors who received citizenship before 2018, reports RBC. Businessmen often used to receive the sacred passport, after they were refused in Malta. The European Commission emphasized that after the first refusal, the parties ought to be added in a black list.
Names of the Russians who are going to be deprived of Cyprus’ citizenship have not been disclosed.
