Cryptocurrency analyst Pavel Lerner deems “international criminal network” was complicit in his 2017 abduction
According to Lerner, criminals have kidnapped several more cryptomillionaires.
Ukrainian cryptocurrency analyst Pavel Lerner told FF.ru portal the details of his abduction in December 2017. According to Lerner, some “international criminal network” was involved in the kidnapping.
On December 26, 2017, unknown masked men shoved Lerner into a car and drove away. He was released only three weeks after a large ransom was paid. After that, the analyst left Ukraine.
According to Lerner, he was not the only cryptomillionaire who was kidnapped by representatives of the “international criminal network.” The criminals were looking for other representatives of the cryptocurrency industry.
“There were about 20 names on the list. I was not even the first to have been kidnapped,” Lerner said.
The criminals demanded 10,000 bitcoins for Lerner's release. At that time, the cost of one Bitcoin was about $20 thousand. In the end, the kidnappers released him for $2 million.
Lerner noted that the investigation into his abduction was still underway, but so far, no one has been held accountable. According to the analyst, all those who deal with cryptocurrencies in the countries of the former USSR are in jeopardy.
