Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Yucheng spoke about the relations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Chinese President Xi ​​Jinping. He recalled that over the past six years, the leaders have held 30 meetings – an average of five times a year.

“The friendly contacts between Chairman Xi Jinping and President Putin made a deep impression on everyone. <...> They traveled together on a train, watched hockey, rode along the Neva River, fried pancakes, which was widely discussed by the public,” Le Yucheng said in an interview with Bloomberg, the transcript of which was published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

He also recalled the gift that the Russian president had made to Xi Jinping on his 66th birthday.

“On June 15, during the CICA summit in Dushanbe, President Putin specially brought a cake from Moscow, with which he went to the residence of Chairman Xi Jinping to congratulate him on his birthday. It was a very beautiful congratulation,” Le Yucheng said.

He added that the leaders ate the cake together and had a drink, discussing their friendship, which touched the others.
