CEO of Rustavi 2 channel, who promised to urinate in wine and Borjomi exported to Russia, fired
The channel’s contract with now the former employee was until the end of 2020.
The scandalous Georgian television channel Rustavi 2 received a new owner and CEO: businessman Kibar Khalvashi gained control over the channel and appointed his lawyer Paata Salia its head, TASS reports. The former CEO, Nika Gvaramiya, became infamous for promising to urinate in wine and Borjomi exported to Russia after his employee, host Georgy Gabunia, bad-mouthed the president of the Russian Federation in his show.
“In just an hour, they re-registered Rustavi 2, as a two-room Khrushchevka,” Eyo Kavkaz quoted Gvaramiya as saying.
The former head of the channel intends to sue the company with which he had previously entered into an employment contract until December 31, 2020. By law, Gvaramia must be paid a penalty, the ex-CEO hopes to receive $ 5 million and invest them in a new TV company.
Shares of Rustavi 2 were redistributed on July 18: 60% of the TV channel now belongs to Khalvashi, who supports the ruling authority, 40%. Belong to his company Panorama.
