Bilateral meeting of Putin and Erdogan begins in Ankara

The Russian delegation in Ankara includes Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Special Representative of the Head of State for Syrian Settlement Alexander Lavrentyev.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Ankara, where he holds a bilateral meeting with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Also on Monday, September 16, the Russian leader will take part in the trilateral summit on Syria and will meet with Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani, the spokesman for the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, announced.

Negotiations between Putin and Erdogan began in the presidential complex of Cankaya, where the trilateral summit to resolve the situation in Syria with the participation of the presidents of Russia, Turkey and Iran starts on the same day.

The meeting is held behind the closed doors. According to the Kremlin’s spokesman, first the leaders will have a face-to-face talk, and if necessary, members of the delegations of the two countries will join them, TASS reports.

After this, a press conference of the heads of Russia, Turkey and Iran will be held.

Ushakov earlier said that Moscow expects the summit in Ankara to open the doors for a meeting in Istanbul with the participation of Moscow, Ankara, Berlin and Paris.

Earlier on the same day, it was reported that the Russian medium-range MS-21 aircraft made its first international flight from Zhukovsky Airport to Istanbul. The liner arrived at the Ataturk Airport to participate in the Technofest festival.
