Almost 50 thousand General Motors factory employees went on strike at 55 General Motors facilities over a contract dispute, Associated Press reports.

Earlier, unions appealed to more than 46 thousand workers at 31 facilities calling to leave their workplace or to refuse to perform their work duties until further notice.

It is clarified that the last time the union went on a strike in 2007. Then, more than 73 thousand workers at 80 General Motors enterprises were protesting for two days.
