145 graves buried beneath King High School in Tampa, Florida
In the American city of Tampa, Florida, a mass grave was discovered under the building of a local school, reports Tampa Bay Times.
About 145 graves buried 3 to 5 feet deep were found on the site where the King High School campus is located. According to preliminary data, this is part of a mid-20th century paupers burial ground, the Ridgewood Cemetery, where mainly African Americans and poor people were buried.
The Ridgewood Cemetery was opened in 1942. A total of about 250 people were buried there. In 1957, the city sold a plot with a cemetery to a private company, and in 1960 a school was built on this site.
