Yaroslavl: Two more jail officers arrested in prisoners’ tortures case
Two more Yaroslavl’s jail officers arrested in prisoners’ torture case.
Zavolzhsky Yaroslavl court arrested two employees of the regional colony No. 8 in the case of torture of prisoners, 76.ru reports. The deputy head of the security department of the colony No. 8, Sardor Ziyabov, and the head of the colony workshop, Dmitry Nikitenko, are suspected of exceeding official powers (Part 3, Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Both refused to testify.
According to the investigation, on November 29, 2016 Yaroslavl colony No. 1 carried out "planned regime measures" in which stuff of the eighth colony took part. Guards forced prisoners to run along the corridor, beating them with rubber sticks. A video of the beating was published by Novaya Gazeta. After the publication of the video, the Invistigative Committee initiated a second case of abuse of authority.
Earlier, another video was published with the beating of convicted Makarov. A criminal case was instituted against 12 employees of the jail. According to the version of the Investigative Committee, there was a conflict between Makarov and one of the guards. For insulting the inspector, the officers severely beat the prisoner with truncheons. The court arrested 11 employees of the colony, the other one was put under house arrest.
