Volodin reacts to detention of deputy Yumasheva by FBI officers: “A cynical provocation”

A State Duma deputy was detained and interrogated at the New York airport.

State Duma Chairman Vladimir Volodin commented on the detention of deputy Inga Yumasheva at the New York airport. The deputy arrived at the Fort Ross Dialogue forum.

“The actions of the United States are another example of a violation of their international obligations. State Duma deputy Inga Yumasheva received an invitation to participate in an international forum, and the American embassy issued her a visa.

In the State Duma, Inga Yumasheva coordinates the work of US Congress liaison groups, interacts with her colleagues, and participates in a difficult dialogue. The behavior of US intelligence in this regard can only be assessed as a cynical provocation,” the Duma press service quoted Volodin.

According to him, there are forces in the US that want exacerbation of bilateral relations. “Actions that create a negative atmosphere in the relations between our countries are unacceptable and condemnable,” the State Duma chairman concluded.

Earlier, FBI employees detained a journalist and State Duma deputy Inga Yumasheva at the New York airport. She was interrogated for about an hour. The Russian embassy sent a note of protest to the US State Department in connection with the incident.
