Video of detention of more than 160 poachers from DPRK in Sea of Japan published on Web

Yesterday, the North Korean fishermen fired on Russian border guards, injuring four.

The FSB published a video of the detention of 161 DPRK citizens engaged in illegal fishing in the Sea of Japan in the Russian economic zone. The operation was preceded by a shootout of poachers on one of the schooners with Russian border guards, during which four servicemen were injured.

The video shows an inspection of one of the detained schooners’ poachers. The North Koreans do not offer resistance. Many containers for fish were found on board. In addition to the two schooners, 11 motorboats were detained, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports. The violators were taken to the seaside port of Nakhodka.

On September 17, the border guards noticed two poaching schooners during a raid. The crew of one (21 people) surrendered, the other (more than 45 people) – opened fire on Russian troops. The condition of the wounded in the shootout of Russians is satisfactory. There are also victims among the fishermen, but their number is unknown.

When inspecting the schooners, the security forces seized knives, batons, metal crowbars, and homemade sticks with nails. The Korean fished without the necessary permits.

A similar incident occurred on September 11: border guards detained 16 fishing schooners and 250 DPRK citizens who illegally caught Pacific squid.
