Two cases initiated after Kemerovo Romani fight
A suspect in stabbing two villagers has been detained. The cases were opened under unspecified articles.
The Kemerovo department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened two criminal cases after a fight involving Romani in the village of Podgorny, reported the press service of the department.
The cases were instituted after reports from the local hospital that two men received stab wounds during a fight in Podgorny. The wounding suspect has already been detained. The cases were opened under unspecified articles.
Earlier it was reported that the police and special forces had taken the house of Romani in Podgorny under their protection because the locals threatened to lynch them. The villagers were outraged by a fight between their friends and “the gypsies”, resulting in the locals getting several stab wounds. According to Baza, the conflict began due to harassment of women.
A representative of the village administration told Interfax on August 22 that a “people's gathering” will be held in connection with the conflict in the village. However, he refused to comment on the incident.
