Stavropol region: 5 people including children were infected with HIV in hospital
Two adults and three children became infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) during treatment in a hospital in the Stavropol city of Budyonnovsk in 2018, Interfax reports with reference to the regional Ministry of Health.
The department said that the incident was checked, and it was found out that employees of the infectious diseases department had violated sanitary requirements. Court will determine the guilty party. According to Mash, patients were put I.V. with catheters, which were used many times.
All victims were urgently registered with the regional AIDS Center and receive antiretroviral therapy. Due to timely treatment, the disease does not surface in children.
What else is known:
A source in the region’s medical community told the agency that one of those infected had filed a claim with the Budyonnovsk court demanding compensation for the harm caused. The claim is satisfied, but the interlocutor did not name the amount of payment.
“Other infected patients have not yet filed a lawsuit with compensation claims,” a source noted.
