Special forces rescue Roma from indignant villagers in Kemerovo region
The conflict stemmed from a stabbing fight.
It is reported that the villagers were outraged by a fight between their friends and “the gypsies”, resulting in the locals getting several stab wounds. According to Baza, the conflict began due to harassment of women.
On August 20, more than 100 men, outraged by the situation, approached the house. The Romani saw the crowd and called the police, who arrived at the scene with the SOBR.
A representative of the village administration told Interfax on August 22 that a “people's gathering” will be held in connection with the conflict in the village. However, he refused to comment on the incident.
According to sources in law enforcement agencies, some of the villagers had prior convictions. Most of the fighting men were drunk. The one who stabbed villagers has been detained and the victims have been hospitalized.
The Interfax interlocutor noted that only 25 Romani actually live in Podgorny, “There is no dominance of gypsy camps, nothing of the sort.” Currently, officers of the traffic police are on duty in the village.
