On the eve the website of Open Russia was included in the register of sites containing calls for riots, extremist activity consummation and materials of a foreign or international non-governmental organization which activities are recognized as undesirable on the territory of Russia. After that, Internet providers blocked access to the site at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office.

For the same reason, the sites of the Open Russia movement, Open Elections and Open University, as well as khodorkovsky.ru were blocked. The project Roskomvoboda writes that the National Democratic Institute, Media Development Investment Fund, the Soros Open Society Foundation, the Institute of Modern Russia and other sites were also blocked.

In April, the Prosecutor General's Office recognized the organizations Open Russia (Great Britain), Institute of Modern Russia, Inc (USA) and Open Russia Civic Movement, Open Russia (Great Britain) "undesirable" in Russia, because, according to the agency, they "carry out special projects on the territory of the Russian Federation in order to discredit the results of the elections in Russia and to recognize their results as illegitimate." At the same time, the department promised that this decision would not affect the work of the Russian movement, just legal entities registered in Europe.
