Serebrennikov personally made orders about conclusion of fictitious contracts
The director, in his turn, called the charges in his address absurd.
Artistic director of Gogol-center Kirill Serebrennikov is placed in the pre-trial detention center Matrosskaya Tishina. He was brought there after the interrogation in the Investigative Committee, lawyer Dmitry Kharitonov told media.
He also added that Serebrennikov is placed in the isolation center prior to a court session which will take place tomorrow. A measure of restraint will be chosen to the artistic director accused of swindling. “I still do not know which [measure]”, Kharitonov noted.
Besides, the lawyer emphasized that his client considers the charges in his address absurd. “Platforma was a project which has taken place, money that was allocated by the state was spent for this project,” the lawyer told.
In turn, representative of the Investigative Committee (ICR) of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko said that Serebrennikov's guilt is confirmed by the testimonies of witnesses and financial documents withdrawn during searches. Thus, according to the investigators, the director personally ordered defendants of the case to sign fictitious contracts with under control firms and businessmen on behalf of the Seventh Studio.
Subsequently, the money allocated by the Ministry of Culture was withdrawn to settlement accounts of contractors, including short-lived firms, under the guise of payment of these contracts. Then the means were cashed, and Serebrennikov allegedly distributed them between his accomplices. In total, as a result of Serebrennikov's actions, not less than 68 million rubles ($1.1 million) allocated from the budget of the Russian Federation were stolen, the representative of the ICR says.
As the CrimeRussia wrote earlier, Kirill Serebrennikov was detained on August 22 in St. Petersburg where he was shooting a movie. Today the director was brought to Moscow for interrogation in the Investigative Committee. It should be noted that the director of Gogol Center was interrogated several times earlier, however then he was connected to the case in quality of a witness.
To recall, the case was initiated regarding the embezzlement of budget funds, allocated by the Ministry of Culture for the creative project of Serebrennikov Platforma, for implementation of which the Seventh Studio was created. Within investigation of the criminal case, charges were brought to former general producer of Seventh Studio Alexey Malobrodsky, ex-director of this company Yuri Itin and former accountant Nina Maslyaeva. The former accountant, as it was reported earlier, agreed to cooperate with the investigation. Maslyaeva gave testimonies against other defendants in the case and also against Serebrennikov.
The court believes that Anzhela Maria Tsapok could have made the money to buy the house and the expensive car by legal means, since she owned a firm. The court still refused to lift the attachment from her 6 million dollars.
